I've ruined my temple with drugs...

There’s very little information on this LP or Dave Bixby, and it wouldn’t surprise me if he blew his brains out after releasing it sometime around 1970. Ode to Quetzalcoatl is a supremely dark and personal record mourning Bixby’s lost years as a drug user and trying desperately to reconcile his sins with Christ. Optimistic moments are rare in these songs, and even then they seem so futile. Take these lines from “Secret Forest” for example:

Maybe I would find a good friend
And tell him of my walk today
And maybe he would want to come with me
And kneel down in the woods and pray
And we’d find out
And then we’d know
