Goofy ass giveaway Cubs cap and Leukemia aside, Steve Goodman was one of the greatest folk song writers of the late 20th century. He wrote such standards as “City of New Orleans” (you know, the “Good mornin’ America how are ya’?” song Arlo Guthrie did) and the song they play at Wrigley Field whenever the Cubs win (go cubs go…go cubs go…hey chicag®o whaddya say? “Cubs are gonna win today”). Usually when I think of Folkies, I think of my parents at a Cabaret-style dinner-and-a-show performance with some dude playing some Woody Guthrie three-chord bullshit, but this guy’s live stuff is incredible. He’s always got weird backup instrument up there—a fife, a recorder, accordion, or that sweet ass 13th Floor Elevators noize…
